Running in pink to give hope to women battling breast cancer

Today, 57* women in Australia will hear the words "You have breast cancer"—that’s more than 20,000 every year.

That statistic is more than just a number—it’s a reminder of the countless lives affected.

On Sunday, 9 March 2025, Brisbane will turn pink as over 20,000 people come together for the International Women’s Day Fun Run. Presented by Queensland X-Ray, this scenic 5km run is more than a race—it’s a show of strength, solidarity, and support for women battling breast cancer.

I’m not much of a runner, but this year as I approach a significant birthday milestone, I’ve decided to lace up my shoes and take part. Breast cancer has deeply impacted my family, and that’s why this cause means so much to me.

I remember the day we found out my two aunts had breast cancer. They were young, in their thirties, with full lives ahead of them. The battle they fought—through surgeries, chemotherapy, and years of treatment—was intense and heartbreaking. We lost them both, just six months apart, in their forties.

Their journey, and the journeys of so many women facing breast cancer today, have motivated me to do something meaningful. This year, I’m stepping up to raise as much as I can to support women with breast cancer and their families.

Raising funds to support women with breast cancer

The funds raised through this event will go directly toward supporting women now and into the future, by funding breast cancer research and vital patient support services. Here’s how donations can make a real impact:

💗 $37 – Funds research to improve survival rates and work toward a future where all women diagnosed with breast cancer survive.

💗 $65 – Provides psychological support for women at the time of diagnosis.

💗 $120 – Helps restore confidence after breast removal surgery by providing a mastectomy bra.

💗 $180 – Provides a woman with a wig or scarf to help her feel more like herself after chemotherapy-induced hair loss.

You Can Help, Too!

This cause is close to my heart, and every dollar raised will help women facing breast cancer feel supported, confident, and less alone. If you’d like to be part of this mission, please consider donating. Any amount—big or small—makes a difference.
